City Of Chicago App Prototype

Speculative mid-fidelity prototype of http://www.cityofchicago.org as an app.

Problem

A crime against well thought out information Architecture, cityofchicago.org was a tangled mess of links, breadcrumbs & dated design choices. This project entailed rein visioning the site as a more straightforward application for smartphones that would ease the myriad of issue it contained. 

Action

To solve this issue, I did a deep dive inventory of the content items on the website. I analyzed the time on task needed to complete a simple issue and undertook a comparative analysis of similar websites and applications to see how similar issues were handled by other government entities.  I simplified the most important features into a bottom aligned navigation menu, as I decided it was necessary to streamline the functionality and hone in on the most needed features for ease of access. 

Result

This information was then utilized create a useable prototype based off two specific tasks: requesting a building inspection and looking at the latest alerts for children.
